Mother & Daughter found dead in a Rochester home

Rochester Police are investigating a double-homicide on the city’s southwest side that was discovered Friday morning.

Officers  found a mother and daughter dead at the scene near the corner of Wellington and Frost Avenue.

Police have now officially identified the victims as 35 year old Christie Brooks and her daughter, 18-year-old Victoria Brooks, both of Rochester. Victoria Brooks was home from Canisus College for the holiday weekend. 

Canisius College released a statement which said, "The Canisius College community is profoundly saddened by the deaths of freshman student Victoria Brooks and her mother, Christie Brooks. We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to their surviving family members and friends. Grief counseling will be made available to all members of the Canisius College community this coming week."

Victoria Brooks is also a recent graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School, and the school released this statement:

"It is with deep sadness that we share the Mercy graduate, Victoria Brooks, class of 2016 and her mother, Christie Brooks were found dead this morning from gunshot wounds. Victoria was home from Canisius College for Thanksgiving. The police have no suspect at this point. We ask the entire Mercy community to pray for Victoria, her mother, and her family, including her sister, a current Mercy junior, Alexizandria. Tomorrow, Saturday, November 26th, Mercy’s Campus Minister and counselors will be available in the Motherhouse Chapel from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm for anyone from the Mercy community who would welcome the support. On Monday, Mercy’s faculty will meet with Alexizandria’s classmates to share information and provide resources."

The D&C reports that there were several children inside the house at the time of the shooting.

Authorities say they don’t suspect any additional danger to the neighborhood.
