More Red Cross Volunteers Headed To Louisiana

More area volunteers from the American Red Cross are headed to Louisiana to help people impacted by the devastating floods.

The floods  in southern Louisiana have killed at least six people and pushed tens of thousands from their homes. From the Rochester area, Sarah Perkins of Pittsford had already been assigned. James Robinson of East Rochester will help with bulk distribution, and Gail Hirst of Rochester will do client casework on a virtual basis.

There are also several volunteers from Central New York, Western NY and the Southern Tier who will be helping out.

The Red Cross says preliminary reports are that as many as 10,000 homes are damaged, and many people were forced from their homes. The Red Cross is helping out with community shelters, food and other necessities.
