ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ A new study shows continued gains in the numbers of New York children with health insurance, driven mostly by increased coverage through public programs.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation report released Thursday shows the percentage of children without insurance dropped from 5.6 percent in 2008 to 4.3 percent in 2012.
Nationally, the percentage of uninsured children declined from 9.7 percent to 7.5 percent. The report by researchers at the University of Minnesota is based on U.S. Census date.
It shows significant gains among minority children and children in low-income families as Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program offset a decline in the number of children covered through private insurance from 66.6 percent in 2008 to 61.5 percent four years later.
