More Details On Downtown Grocery Store

hartslocalgrocers.com

More details have been released about the new grocery store coming to downtown Rochester.  It's called "Hart's Local Grocers,” and it's located in the building that was recently occupied by the Craig Autometrics repair shop on Winthrop Street, just off East Avenue.

The owner is Glenn Kellogg, an urban economic planner from Washington D.C.  who came to Rochester three years ago.  He says the new store will be about 20,000 square feet, which would be about half the size of the old Wegmans on East Avenue.

"I want to reassure everyone that, that's still a size that you can fit all the departments...that you'll walk in and there will be produce and dairy and a meat counter and a seafood counter and cheese and prepared foods.”

Kellogg says he will try to emphasize foods that are from Rochester and the Finger Lakes as well as having the standards brands.

The name "Hart's" hearkens back to a grocery store in Rochester that was around in the 1940s.  Kellogg says there is a parking lot at the new store that should be sufficient when you consider there will also be a certain amount of walk-in traffic. He expects to get business from people already living in the East End as well as other neighborhoods.
