More Details Announced About New Supermarket At College Town

Owners of an Ohio-based supermarket are releasing more details about their upcoming opening at Rochester's new College Town project, located near the U of R in the Mt. Hope Avenue area.

An official with Cleveland-based Constantino's Market says the family-owned business will open its supermarket on April 9th, with grand opening ceremonies on April 16th.

This is the first venture out of northeast Ohio for the company which opened its first market in downtown Cleveland in 2005.

Andrew Revy is a partner with Constantino's. He says the owners of his company were well aware of the dominance of Wegmans and Tops in this market when they decided to come here.

"We weren't necessarily in the market to go up against the Wegmans or Tops, it's really carving out that niche that we are the neighborhood grocery store for that area that we are."

Constantino's market is expected to create 38 jobs.

Senator Charles Schumer announced last year the project will get some federal money to help with the start of the operation.

Part of the money will be used for a low-interest loan and the rest of the funds will  be used to create a job training and placement program to help fill  a number of the store's jobs with local-income Rochester area residents.
