Monroe County has extended the hours of its immunization clinic for students who are at risk of being withheld from school because they don't have the necessary vaccinations.
Starting today, the clinic at 111 Westfall Road is open for walk-in appointments on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appointments will be accepted on Tuesdays from 9 to noon.
Those hours continue through next Thursday, September 22.
There is no charge for most vaccinations for children through age 18. Parents are urged to bring their health insurance cards and any letters they may have received from school about their children's missing vaccinations.
New York State requires students entering kindergarten to get five shots: diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis; chickenpox; measles, mumps and rubella, hepatitis B and polio.
Starting this year, students entering grades 7 and 12 must get a meningitis vaccination.
