Monroe County expedites tax bills to allow early payment before new federal reg's take effect

Monroe County will help expedite property tax bills to allow early payment for people trying to get in under the wire before new federal tax legislation takes effect.

Dinolfo says that county/town tax bills will be prepared early and posted on the county’s website, www.monroecounty.gov no later than 9:00 a.m. on December 29 in order to allow residents to pay their 2018 tax bills on the last day of business in 2017.

Dinolfo says under the new federal tax legislation, New Yorkers may benefit by paying their 2018 town/county taxes prior to January 1. But she encourages residents to consult a tax professional to discuss their own personal finance options before taking any action.

Meantime, in the Town of Greece, Supervisor Bill Reilich says that additional staff will be available to support town residents in processing property taxes on December 29. He says that will help people who want to pay their taxes before January 1.

Also, Governor Andrew Cuomo on Friday signed an order allowing New Yorkers to pre-pay their 2018 taxes to local governments and schools by Jan. 1 and claim the deduction on their 2017 taxes. The new tax code will cap the deduction for state and local taxes at $10,000.
