Monroe County Enhances Ecopark Recycling

Monroe County officials say they are enhancing services  at its ecopark. That's a facility near the Rochester Airport  that accepts a number of types of items for recycling, and it's open to all county residents.

County Executive Maggie Brooks says they specialize in handling those difficult to dispose of items.

“It’s not just what you’re putting in your bins at the curb, at home;  clothing dropped off here is given to Goodwill, old cell phones are provided to a program called 'Cellphones for Soliders', computers and monitors are recycled here.”

She says county residents are also helping to extend the viability of the landfill by doing this recycling.

“By dropping off these difficult to dispose of recyclables you are not only de-cluttering your home, but you’re helping to divert the materials that could end up in our landfill and that’s certainly something that is a challenge for any community that runs a landfill.”

Ecopark is now open Wednesdays from 1:00 to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  You can get more information at www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark

Brooks also says it not only helps local residents, it also helps keep the landfill viable.
