Monroe County brings back Girls Sports Festival

monroecounty.gov

A celebration of girls in sports will be held at Frontier Field this summer.

The Girls Sports Festival is back for a second year.

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says it gives young girls the chance to try out a range of different sports options.

"We know that sports helps women grow skills, confidence and teamwork, and it is the foundation of success not only for today but for a lifetime."

Girls will be able to pick four sports to test run at the daylong festival, such as volleyball, cross fit, fencing and cheerleading.

This is the first year the event will feature accessible and inclusive sporting options for girls with disabilities.

Anita O’Brien runs Rochester Accessible Adventures and says it will mean a lot to families they work with to see the county embracing inclusion.

The festival first began in the 1990s, before making a comeback last year.

The one-day festival will take place Saturday August 18th at Frontier field from noon to 5pm. It’s free to attend.
