Migraine Treatment Center Opens

Migraine sufferers in Rochester may be able avoid the emergency room while still getting same-day care.

This month the Acute Migraine Treatment Center opened its doors on Carter Street. The center is designed to treat patients suffering from migraines when medications they may take from home fail.

Dr. Richard Dudrak is the Medical Director of Urgent Care by Lifetime Health where the migraine center is located.

Dr. Dudrak says emergency rooms are full of bright lights and loud noises which can be a difficult experience for someone suffering from a migraine, "The whole nature of emergency care is get the patient some relief and send them back home while there is some very excellent migraine medication that not just give relief but also break the cycle of the migraine so the headache doesn't come back but those aren't usually used in the emergency room because they're a little more involved and take a little more time."

The treatment center is open seven days a week from noon to 9:00 p.m.

Dr. Dudrak says patients are encouraged to call the center before showing up to ensure they're treated upon arrival. The phone lines at the center open at 11am.
