Memorial Art Gallery Works To Help People Impacted By Genesee St. Tragedy

mag.rochester.edu

The Memorial Art Gallery is offering free admission on Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm.

Instead of admission, the MAG will collect voluntary contributions to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rochester in the wake of the shooting that happened in front of that club on Genesee Street last week. Three people were killed and four were injured.

The MAG's director, Jonathan Binstock, says it's just one way their museum feels they can help.

"We feel torn  up, heartbroken about what has happened and wanted to do what we can do to help. We are an art museum and we have a beautiful facility, beautiful works of art, we want to share them and give people a place to go these amazing works of art from around the world."

Binstock, says the museum is a good place for people who need a place to enjoy a peaceful setting.

'The MAG is a place where people come together , it's a place where they share ideas about what they feel is important , what they feel is beautiful , what they think is creative, innovative, it's a place where they can learn about culture from around the world , it's a place where people have conversations about these things.”

The Memorial Art Gallery also had already planned to work on arts programs with School 29 which is in that same southwest Rochester neighborhood.
