Memorial Art Gallery Names A New Director

The Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester has a new director. He is Jonathan Binstock, who replaces Grant Holcomb. Holcomb is retiring after nearly 30 years in that post.

Binstock comes to Rochester from New York City, where he was a senior vice president and senior advisor in modern and contemporary art for Citi Private Bank's Art Advisory & Finance Group.

Officials say he brings more than a decade of experience in major American museums including the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.  He was curator of contemporary art there from 2000 to 2007.

Before that Binstock was assistant curator at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

University of Rochester President Joel Seligman says that Binstock "brings a wealth of experience in major art museums, exceptional expertise, and a vision and enthusiasm for engaging art lovers and learners of all ages."

Binstock is considered an expert in post-WWII art and joined Citi in 2007, working with clients and their families to build personal art collections.
