The House of Representatives has given its okay to funding for victims and families of the West Webster Fire Department who were injured or killed in last year's Christmas Eve ambush.
Local Congresswoman Louise Slaughter says the money came from donations across the country in the days and weeks following the tragedy. Until now, an IRS Code had limited the fire department's ability to distribute the donations to the victims and families.
Slaughter said in a release, while there are no words that can heal the wounds suffered by the injured firefighters or bring back the two who died in the attack, the legislation shows that the country is there to support the families in need.
