MCC Students Host Debate Viewing Party

A student leader at Monroe Community College says the upcoming presidential election is a big topic of discussion on campus this year.

Blake Moore, president of MCC's Student Government Association, says he and some of his classmates, faculty, and staff will get together tonight to watch the first debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

"Typically students usually kind of lean on the left side of the fence, but this time, it seems like there's a good mix-up and students are interested in what both candidates have to say,"  he said.

As for what he wants to hear from the candidates tonight, Moore said,“"I think for Hillary, I think it's going to be proving to people that she isn't the dodgy or sneaky candidate that she's been painted with. I think for her, it's going to be providing very direct answers to the questions that are at hand."

“And for Trump, because is such a kind of puffed-up candidate, I'm hoping he tones that down a little bit. I think Americans are looking for him to get realistic about it, no more of the reality TV antics."

The public is invited to attend the MCC debate viewing party starting at 7:30 tonight in Building 3 on the Brighton Campus. The League of Women Voters will be on hand with information about how to register to vote in the general election.
