Mark Assini Announces Congressional Candidacy

Gates Town Supervisor Mark Assini made it official Thursday night. He is running for the 25th Congressional District seat held by longtime Democratic representative Louise Slaughter.

This is Assini’s second run for Congress. He lost in a Republican primary to former Congressman Randy Kuhl in 2005 in a Southern Tier based seat that had included parts of Monroe County. Slaughter will be running for her 15th term.

Slaughter released this statement on Thursday:

"Monroe County has sent Louise Slaughter to Congress because she's a tough fighter who delivers results for the constituents she is proud to represent. Upstate New York has a tradition of rejecting Tea Party politics and electing trustworthy leaders like Louise who work hard to rebuild our region’s economy. We look forward to discussing our region's future, and to earning each and every vote.”

Tim Dean has also announced an independent bid for the 25th Congressional seat.
