ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York reports its maple syrup production has increased 18 percent this year, breaking last year's record by more than 100,000 gallons.
Agriculture officials say the state's maple farmers have produced more than 700,000 gallons of syrup in 2016. They attribute the increase to warmer than normal temperatures and an extended season averaging 36 days.
New York remains the second-largest producer nationally.
Federal data show the state this year has contributed 16.8 percent of the national total. New York has more than 2.5 million taps in production.
