ALDEN, N.Y. (AP) _ The family of a western New York man who died inside his snowbound vehicle says he called for assistance several times but help never arrived.

The wife and parents of 46-year-old Donald Abate of Blasdell tell Buffalo's WIVB-TV that he was driving home from his job in Batavia early Tuesday morning when his pickup truck wound up in a ditch in the town of Alden, 15 miles east of Buffalo.

Jackie Abate says her husband called his family on his cellphone and told them he had called AAA and police to get help, but no one ever arrived.

She says during her husband's last call home he said the snow had piled up past the mirrors on his truck.

State police say Donald Abate was found dead inside his snow-covered pickup on Tuesday.

An autopsy is planned.
