Webster's (Ninth) New Collegiate Dictionary defines graupel as "granular snow pellets -- called also soft hail."
Evidence seems to indicate that was what was falling around Rochester this morning.
The National Weather Service predicts some lake effect snow showers on and off today, with more rain Saturday night and Sunday.
No predictions of any more graupel, however.
