Looking For a Home After Sanctuary Village

A temporary homeless shelter in a warehouse in the city has closed, and advocates for the homeless are continuing their work to find a more permanent setting.

Sister Grace Miller is director of the House of Mercy.

She says they have requested the city keep Sanctuary Village open until they find a more permanent solution.

"We think we have something we need to solidify, so we were hoping that the shelter could just remain open until the permanent one they have found is opened," Miller says.

Miller wouldn't say where that new shelter is located, but expects it could open by the fall.

She says it first must pass city codes, and an environmental study must done.

WXXI reached out to the city for comment on Miller's request that Sanctuary Village remain open longer.
