Local Tourism Officials Try to Capture Chinese Market

scmp.com

According to a recent study, New York State is one of the top American destinations for Chinese travelers.

Tourism officials are hoping to capitalize on the growing Chinese market. Workshops are scheduled this week throughout upstate, including the Rochester area, to educate tourism and government agencies and the hospitality industry on how to promote the region to the $102 billion Chinese tourism market.

Cindy Kimble is president of the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance. She says Chinese travelers will be drawn to many of the attractions in our region. "They're very interested in the .scenic beauty; taking a hike, seeing a waterfall. They're also interested in experiencing what is known as 'quaint America.' We have many towns and villages that can give them a taste of America."

Kimble says representatives from the New York tourism alliance Wine, Water and Wonders of Upstate New York will travel to Shanghai this year for a tourism show.
