Local Retailers Looking For A Burst Of Post-Holiday Sales

Even though Christmas is over the sales are not. Local mall managers say that a lot of retailers are still offering deep discounts in an effort to clear out some of their inventory.

At Marketplace Mall, general manager Mike Wilmot  says the day after Christmas wasn't as busy as it was in some past years, but he expects store traffic to pick up toward the weekend.

"Whether it's more people shopping on line and getting things that way, or just people getting what they wanted, buying it themselves, whatever, I just walked the mall, and there's the 50, 60 percent off signs everywhere, so bargains will be plentiful."

The general manager at Eastview Mall, Mike Kauffman, says retailers at Eastview had a pretty good month, but they are still hoping for  a burst of activity over the next few days.

"December actually came through very well, but this upcoming week is important as well, there's an awful lot of gift cards out there, a lot of people looking for sales, so this particular week coming up is also considered part of the holiday season for the retailers."

Kauffman says the retailers are hoping a lot of shoppers redeem their gift cards this year so that the sales can be recorded for their 2013 budget year.
