Local Printing Company Adding Jobs

A local printing company is expanding.  Mercury Print Productions says it expects to add about 30 jobs to its current 210 member workforce after securing a contract with a publisher of school textbooks.

Company president Christian Schamberger says in terms of experience needed for these positions, it really varies with the job.

“You don’t need much experience to be working on the floor in our bindery, in a hand-collating, hand-worked type job,  whereas some of the other positions available are machine operators, press operators and that’s where we would want some experience coming from within the industry.”

Mercury has expanded quite a bit in recent years moving from a building on Holleder Parkway to a larger space in the Rochester Tech Park.

Schamberger says even with the ongoing move to digital, print is not disappearing, just changing in terms of the customized products that companies like his can provide.

“With where we play within the market, and we use the term a lot, digital printing., but it’s utilizing some of the newer technologies from companies, local companies such as Kodak and Xerox to be able to produce short-run customized printed products.”
