Local Humanitarian Organization Seeks Donations For Haiti Relief

intervol.org

A local humanitarian relief organization is seeking donations to help victims of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti.

Intervol first began working in Haiti in the wake of the 2010 earthquake, where they built and still maintain an orphanage called the Home for Hope.

The coastal community of Léogâne where the orphanage was built, is about 20 miles west of the capital of Port-au-Prince, and was also hit hard by Hurricane Matthew, according to Intervol Director Nicole Jones.

"It’s just devastating. What very little they had is absolutely gone. For the people that were still living in tents, those are gone. And for the people who were lucky enough to have 4 walls, those are gone."

The organization is seeking donations of basic, household goods. Monetary donations are also accepted and will go towards the cost of shipping.

Soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, diapers, blankets, sheets, towels, and tarps are a few of the suggested items.

Donations are being accepted Monday October 10th – Friday October 14th. Unity Hospital and Rochester General Hospital are just some of the locations you can drop off items this week.
