New numbers just out from the New York State Labor Department show a gain in private sector jobs for the Rochester area in November. Private sector employment rose 2900 compared to November a year ago.
State labor analyst Tammy Marino says the gains came in a number of sectors.
"Seasonal hiring in construction has been strong all year long, seasonal retail jobs, we saw a lot of hiring there, and hiring in private education also continues to expand. "
Manufacturing jobs are still a weak spot locally. The statewide unemployment rate in November fell to 7.4 percent, down nearly a point from the same month last year, and the lowest level since January of 2009. The Rochester unemployment number comes out next week.
