Local arenas are finalists to become Hockeyville, USA

Kraft Heinz

Two hockey arenas in the region are in the running for the title of Hockeyville, USA.

Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and SUNY Geneseo’s Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena are two of 10 finalists in the contest. The annual competition put on by Kraft will award $150,000 for arena upgrades to the winner, and the facility could host a nationally televised NHL pre-season.

Last year, the winner was Lakeview Arena in Marquette, Michigan, where the Buffalo Sabres faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes.

There are three rounds of voting. The first round starts Tuesday at krafthockeyville.com. Voting also will be conducted via text and Twitter.

As finalists, Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and Wilson Ice Arena will receive at least $10,000 in arena upgrades. There were more than 1,300 local rink nominations across the United States.

The winner will be announced on April 29.
