Lawsuit Against GM Filed On Behalf Of Local Man

The estate of a local man has filed suit against General Motors and Delphi Corporation in connection with a fatal crash that happened last year. It’s related to the same issue involving faulty ignition switches that have been part of a major recall.

The suit was filed on behalf of Daniel Hollaert.  The 23 year old Hamlin man died last December when his car crossed the center line on Route 104 in Orleans County and hit a school bus head on. The lawsuit alleges that a defective ignition switch on the 2006 Chevy Cobalt caused the crash.

Attorney David Russin says  while the suit asks for unspecified damages, his clients also want to make sure this kind of situation can’t happen again.

“This shouldn’t have happened to anybody else, that we mention in our complaint, and it shouldn’t have happened to anybody else that didn’t sue, and justice is the exact word that we’re looking for. “

GM has recalled millions of its vehicles worldwide regarding the ignition switch, and is now facing a number of lawsuits. The company says it does not comment on specific cases.
