Lake Ontario Low for May

Rochester, NY – Water levels on Lake Ontario are down nearly a foot from their average level, and a foot and a half from last year's height.
Levels downstream of the lake are at record lows.
The agency that maintains the outflow from the lake is projecting water levels should rise somewhat this year, but peak a little later than normal.
Jim Vollmershausen is Canadian Chair of the International St. Lawrence River Control Board.
He says Lake Ontario water levels have been affected by lower snowfall totals and a very dry April...
With average weather conditions, the lake levels should rise only about four inches between now and August.
The International St. Lawrence River Control Board has been directed by the International Joint Commission to follow the regulation plan established in 1958 to regulate outflows from Lake Ontario.
