Lake effect snow could blanket parts of Western NY and the Finger Lakes from Thursday night into Saturday, but as happens so often with that kind of precipitation, snowfall totals will vary widely.
The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Snow Advisory for Monroe County from 1:00 a.m. Friday to 6:00 a.m. Saturday. There could be 5 to 9 inches of snow in the most persistent areas of lake snow, and breezy conditions will also make visibility poor at times.
The higher amounts of snow in Monroe County are likely to be in the eastern suburbs headed toward Wayne County.
There is a Lake Snow Warning for Wayne, Wyoming and other counties, both to the southwest of Rochester, and also east of Lake Ontario. That is also in effect from 1:00 a.m. Friday to 6:00 a.m. Saturday. Accumulations in those areas may range from 6 to 11 inches of snow
The lake effect snow machine should start to wind down during the day on Saturday. Temperatures will be near 30 both Friday and Saturday.
