BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP & WXXI News)  Parts of western and central New York have received more than a foot of snow from lake effect storms that are expected to drop another foot or more over the weekend.

The National Weather Service says snowfall totals Friday morning range from around 12 inches in Cattaraugus County south of Buffalo to 17 inches in Lewis County, in the Tug Hill region east of Lake Ontario.

Accumulations in the immediate Rochester area early Friday morning ranged from 1 to about 4 inches, but more lake effect snow was on the way.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for Monroe County until 6am on Saturday. There is also a lake effect snow warning for Wayne County.

Areas near Lake Erie's eastern end have received up to 9 inches since the storms began Thursday morning and forecasters say another foot is expected to fall by the time the storms subside Saturday morning.

Winds gusting to nearly 30 mph are reported in some areas, creating hazardous driving conditions on local roads.

Monroe County deputies say the weather conditions may have been a contributing factor to a fatal accident on Route 31 in the Town of Sweden.

The say the male driver of a car was going west on Route 31 when he lost control, went into the opposite lane and his vehicle was hit by a pickup truck.  The driver of the car died of his injuries. The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.
