Lake Effect Snow, cold & wind through Monday

The Rochester area and much of Western NY, the Finger Lakes and other areas upstate got hammered by heavy lake effect snow from late Sunday afternoon through the overnight into Monday.

Nearly 9" of snow had fallen in Rochester by late Sunday night.

There is a lake snow warningin effect until 7pm Monday for Monroe, Ontario and Wayne Counties  4 to 7 inches of accumulation possible Sunday night, and another couple of inches on Monday. The greatest accumulations will be in areas away from Lake Ontario.

There is also a lake effect snow warning in effect for Livingston, Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming Counties through Monday.

It will also be very windy, with gusts over 40 miles an hour, blowing the snow around and making visibility and driving conditions poor at times.

Rochester Gas & Electric reported more than 16,000 customers without power in Monroe County late Sunday night.

The high Sunday and Monday will be in the 30s.  There are also lake snow warnings for other counties to the east, in Central New York, as well as south of Buffalo.

The weather should moderate by mid-week, with some rain and a high in the 40s on Thanksgiving.
