Lake effect snow and colder temperatures to stay in place for a while

WXXI

The relatively mild weather we’ve seen over the last couple of days is going away.

Colder temperatures came in Tuesday night, and some periods of lake effect snow will continue right into Friday.

News 8 Meteorologist Josh Nichols says there won’t be much accumulation in the immediate Rochester area.

He says there will likely just be a coating of snow in the Rochester Metro up to a couple of inches in spots through Wednesday, with some more lake effect snow possible through the end of the week.

But Nichols says to the west of Rochester, particularly Genesee and Wyoming Counties, snow could accumulate several inches by Friday.

There is a lake effect snow warning for Wyoming County, and other areas to the southwest such as Erie, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties. That warning is in effect from 7pm on Wednesday to 7am on Friday.

There is a winter weather advisoryfor Genesee County from 4pm Wednesday to 1:00 a.m. on Thursday
