Kendrick Road Ramp Project Completed

Officials are announcing the completion of a nearly $15 million highway project near the University of Rochester. It is the second phase of the so-called 'Access 390 ' initiative, and it involves the opening Tuesday of a new entrance ramp from Kendrick Road to I-390 north in Rochester.

State Transportation Department spokeswoman Lori Maher says it will help improve safety and reduce traffic congestion in that area.

"That's really good news for the thousands of motorists that travel in the area of the University of Rochester or those neighborhoods over there or the retail areas, both on the north side of the canal as well as on the south side, over by East River Road. Motorists will now have direct access to the expressway, really in both directions."

This ramp is the second of four projects aimed at improving access between I-390 and the adjacent roads.

The third phase, which is now underway, includes the construction of a loop ramp from Route 15 northbound to I-390 northbound, and officials say that will improve the traffic situation in the area of the West Henrietta Road interchange with I-390.

Work on that phase is scheduled to be completed by the fall of next year.
