Legendary singer/songwriter Judy Collins was the keynote speaker today at the annual East House Hope and Recovery Luncheon in Rochester.

Collins, who's a suicide survivor, says she came from a family of alcoholics and has been in recovery herself for the past 36 years.

She lost her son 22 years ago when he took his own life.

Collins says it's very important to break the taboo and talk about mental health, depression, alcoholism and other issues that were once kept in the shadows.

She says she's interested in solutions to these issues, and so is East House.

Greg Soehner is President of East House.

He says they started with one house to provide housing for people coming out of the psychiatric center -- now there's over 500 units.

Soehner adds East House provides different types of supported housing, along with symptom management and various social services.
