Judge Astacio taken off her judicial duties

Spectrum News

A Rochester City Court judge who was convicted of drunk driving last August has now been relieved of her judicial duties.

Judge Leticia  Astacio  is no longer assigned to any work in her role as a city court judge and she also is no longer allowed access to any non-public area of any courthouse while she deals with her personal matters.

That according to State Supreme Court Justice Craig Doran, who is the administrative judge for the courts in the Rochester area.

Doran says there are a number of factors at play here, including Astacio’s legal issues as well as the need to maintain continued public confidence in the judiciary.

Astacio was convicted of DWI in August, and given a conditional discharge.

Earlier this month, Astacio admitted to violating the terms of her conviction when she failed alcohol screenings required to start her vehicle.

After the August conviction, Astacio had limited administrative duties, but Judge Doran made the decision to remove her from any court tasks after he consulted with court officials in Rochester and Albany.

Astacio is still being paid. Any other change in her status as a judge would have to come from the commission on judicial conduct.
