Judge Astacio To Hear Only Civil Cases For Now

Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio will hear only civil cases for now, while a drunk driving charge against her is still pending.

That according to State Supreme Court Justice Craig Doran, who is the Administrative Judge for the 7th Judicial District. He tells WXXI News that Astacio is being moved off criminal cases for now, to avoid any potential conflicts of interest and maintain public confidence in the judicial system.

Astacio was arrested last Saturday morning on a misdemeanor DWI charge after State Police responded to I-490 near Mt. Read Boulevard. Reportedly her car had damage on it from what may have been a one-car accident.

She was issued a summons to be back in court on March 11. Officials said earlier that City Court will have another judge sit in for her on her scheduled cases.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct is not commenting specifically on the incident involving Judge Astacio, but has said that whenever a judge is charged with an alcohol-related offense, the commission will review the matter.
