(AP) Gov. Andrew Cuomo's main economic development engine for New York no longer has a provision that requires participating businesses to report how many jobs they've created.
Newsday reports that the 2017-18 state budget approved by the Legislature last weekend removed the requirement pertaining to annual reports on jobs created and how much money companies spent on their operations. The requirements had been part of the Start-Up NY program since it began three years ago.
Instead, the new state budget requires Empire State Development, the state's economic development agency, to publish broader reports on the program. The Senate's Republican majority says lawmakers saw a greater need for the governor to produce an annual comprehensive report on all the programs run by the agency.
Budget officials say they'll continue to collect the same information from participating companies.
