Jazz Festival Looking at Shuttle Service for 2013 Event

The Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival begins Friday, but organizers are already looking ahead to improvement for next year’s event.

Producers of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival say they're working on a plan to operate shuttle buses during next year's jazz event.

Co-producer Mark Iacona says shuttles would help festival goers move from one concert venue to another, "People can say 'Hey I know a shuttle's coming. I wanted to go to the Xerox auditorium and I'm all the way over at the Harro, I'm not going to walk all the way over there, even though I can; I can't get there in time"

Iacona says they plan to ask the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority for a bus sponsorship or they'll seek a corporate backer.

"You know there are people that come down here that can't get around as quickly as the 90 percent that can,” he said. “We have people in wheelchairs, elderly and senior citizens that love coming down to the festival and listening to all kinds of music."

Iacona says shuttle buses would run from a designated city parking ramp looping around jazz festivities in downtown's East End. He says buses would stop at three or four of many concert venues, while circling back around to the garage.
