J-Mac Finishes Boston Marathon In Under 3 Hours

TWC News

Jason McElwain, the Greece man also known as " J-Mack", who garnered worldwide attention in 2006 when, as an autistic teen, he scored 20 points for his high school basketball team, has another big accomplishment he can point to.

On Monday, he finished the Boston Marathon with an unofficial time of 2 hours, 57 minutes and five seconds, beating his goal of finishing in less than 3 hours, 10 minutes.  It was the third marathon for J-Mac, who also had run cross country in high school.

More than 100 Rochester area runners took part in the marathon. Nearly 36,000 runners took part in the race, a little more than a year after the bombings at the Boston Marathon finish line in 2013.

An American Meb Keflizighi  won the men's division for the first time in more than three decades.   He ran the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to the finish on Boylston Street in Boston's Back Bay on Monday in 2 hours, 8 minutes, 37 seconds.

Rita Jeptoo of Kenya successfully defended the Boston Marathon title she said she could not enjoy a year ago after bombs killed three people and injured more than 260 others. Jeptoo finished the race in a course-record 2 hours, 18 minutes, 57 seconds.
