Irondequoit Voters Approve New Library

Irondequoit Library

The Town of Irondequoit will be getting a new library. Voters on Tuesday approved the proposal by a vote of 3,651 to 2,033, not including absentee ballots.

Dozens of people lined up Tuesday night to vote on the proposal for a new, 55,000 square foot library just east of the town hall on Titus Avenue.

Officials will now work on finalizing design plans.  Voters approved borrowing up to $13 million for the new library which would add $29 per $100,0000 in assessed value for the next 30 years. It’s hoped that ground will be broken for the  project next spring.

The current library has two branches, each housed in buildings that are 50 years old.
