Irondequoit Supervisor gives update on DPW building fire

TWC News

Irondequoit Town Supervisor Dave Seeley has issued a statement with more information about the massive weekend fire that caused millions of dollars to the town’s public works garage.

He says the fire that began Saturday night brought well over 100 firefighters to the scene and heavily damaged a section of the garage that was built 86 years ago.

Seeley says several vehicles, comprising about a quarter of the DPW fleet, are likely lost due to the fire. He says there was considerable damage to the town’s snow removal vehicles as well as sewer and sanitation vehicles.

The supervisor also says much of the dispatch center was also damaged beyond repair. Seeley says there are contingencies for events like this, with Camp Eastman serving as an alternative facility. Seeley has also spoken with Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo and leaders of other towns who have offered assistance.

Seeley says the DPW is committed to keeping the roads safe and the infrastructure secure.

The supervisor says in the short term, all service calls to the DPW should be made to 336-6033.

There is no word yet on a cause for the fire.
