Rochester city officials say that the proposal to fill in a portion of the Inner Loop can officially move ahead with word that New York State is providing $4.2 million toward the project.
That money fulfills the obligation for a local 'match' in order for the city to get federal funding for the project.
The project calls for the eastern segment of the highway, from Monroe Avenue to Charlotte Street to be filled in, as part of an effort to better connect neighborhoods and foster economic development in that area.
With the state money, it now fully funds the $21 million project. City Council voted to accept the funding Tuesday night.
Construction is expected to begin this fall and take a few years to complete.
