Inaugural ROC Women’s Music Fest on Friday

cityofrochester.gov

The first ROC Women’s Music Fest comes to Rochester today.

The event features a celebration of the centennial anniversary of women’s suffrage in New York, with female musical groups, women-owned food trucks, and more.

Joan Osborne, MC Lyte and Meshell Ndegeocello are featured musical acts.

Kara Osipovitch is with the city’s office of Special Events.

She says the hope is the event becomes an annual attraction in Rochester.

“Rochester is a home place of women’s suffrage, and we want to mark the map for that. We want people to know, we want it to be a regional and national draw eventually, so we’re going to do this festival every year, not just this year,” she said.

Several groups that empower girls and women will be represented at the festival, including the National Susan B. Anthony House and Museum, Rochester NOW, League of Women Voters and the Women’s Council.

The first ROC Women’s Music Fest runs from 5 to 11pm today at Parcel 5, 275 East Main Street.

Admission is 5 dollars and attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or a blanket.
