A ribbon-cutting this morning in the village of Fairport celebrated the completion of two projects designed to benefit residents and visitors to the area.
Village Mayor Fritz May says the projects along the waterfront include the construction of a breakwall and promenade.
He says the projects are are all about economic development and tourism.
May says the canal not only attracts boaters, but people interested in the waterway, and those visitors eat in the village's restaurants, visit the bars, and shop in the stores.
May calls the canal the villages "second Main Street."
The projects are a result of grants from the state matched by local funds from the Fairport Industrial Development Agency.
