Homearama Returns After One-Year Break

After a one-year hiatus in 2015 due to an unusually cold winter, Homearama is returning this weekend.

The nine-day event features seven newly constructed homes at Wilshire Hill in Pittsford.

One is a Cape Cod and the other six are ranches "That is a little unusual,”  said Rick Herman, CEO of the Rochester Homebuilders’ Association. “However, most of them have a lower levels that are turned into media rooms, or something very popular - suites for young adults returning home after college or families that are moving back in with mom and dad for a while as they get those student loans paid off."

The homes range in price from $425,000 to over $550,000. The various homes feature the latest “smart home” technology, open floor plans and a state-of –the –art chef’s kitchen. Another has a 2-sided stone fireplace that can be seen from almost every room. One home is completely wheelchair accessible.  For visitors who like to see more affordable homes, Herman said lower price ranges will be a consideration in future years.

Homearama will likely be an every-other-year event from now on.

"There is so much preparation and so much energy of all of our members in the community that goes into Homearama," Herman said. "It gets to be burdensome to do every year, because we get done with one, and boom, we have to start planning for the other."

The harsh weather in the winter and early spring of 2015 delayed the building season to the point that Homearama had to be canceled last year.

This year’s event runs through July 24. Tickets are $9 and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to local charities.
