Hilton School District mourns death of 13 year old student

TWC News

The Hilton School District is mourning the death of a 13 year old boy who died after being struck by a fire department vehicle on Sunday afternoon in the Town of Greece.

Greece police say it happened just after noon when the boy was walking  and entered Flynn Road when he was hit by a vehicle belonging to the Lakeshore Fire Department.

The young teen was pronounced dead at the hospital and circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.

The Hilton School District has released a statement identifying the boy at Dominic Cook, a 7th grader who attended Merton Williams Middle School.

“Dominic was a wonderful student with a heart of gold,” said Principal Tracie Czebatol. “He always had a smile and ‘good morning’ for everyone, and brought a smile to everyone's face wherever he went.”

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dominic’s family and friends,” said Superintendent of Schools Casey Kosiorek. “We extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time and we will do everything we can to support our students and staff.”

The district’s crisis team will work to provide services to help students, families and staff deal with the tragedy this week.
