Federal authorities have arrested a Hilton Middle School teacher on a child pornography charge. The U.S. Attorney's office says that 46 year old Charles Kane, who is from Spencerport , faces a charge of enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity.
Officials say Kane was arrested Thursday as he tried to meet with a person he thought was a 14 year old girl, but was actually an undercover officer.
Kane had allegedly posted an ad on Craigslist last October that first caught the attention of authorities. He was arrested Thursday at a theater in Webster.
The Hilton School District issued this statement:
"The Hilton Central School District was informed by law enforcement about the arrest of a district employee. We are cooperating fully with the investigation. The district has suspended the employee in question and banned him from campus as per disciplinary policy. It is important to note that none of the charges allege criminal activity by this individual involving any Hilton Central School District students. The District is activating its District Crisis Team and will have resources available to our students when they return on Monday. Student safety is our top priority and will be foremost in our minds throughout this investigation."
