High Deductible Health Plans Grow In Popularity

With a lot of companies now planning their health coverage for next year, more local businesses are offering high deductible health plans. That’s according to a new study just completed by the Rochester Business Alliance.

RBA President Sandy Parker says the annual survey shows that 71 percent of their members have offered high deductible health insurance plans to their employees, up ten percent from the year before. And she's not surprised that more companies are offering those types of plans.

"It clearly is the way that employers are looking to, number one, control their health care costs, and also to get their employees more engaged in their own health care. "

The business leaders who responded to this survey expect their health insurance premiums to rise by an average of just over 12 percent in the coming year. Parker says a number of those companies will ask their employees to absorb some  or all of the cost.
