New York City hosted a parade today for the US Women's World Cup soccer team.

Pittsford native Abby Wambach was on the lead float in the parade, joined by several of her teammates and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Tens of thousands of people lined the parade route.

Speaking at a ceremony after the parade, Wambach thanked her teammates and the fans, saying they couldn't have done it without them.

"This absolutely will go down as one of, if not the best thing I have ever been a part of in my life!"

Wambach said she and her teammates all started with a dream when they were very young, and everyone kept believing in that dream.

The U.S. beat Japan 5-2 in Sunday's final in Vancouver to collect the top prize in women's soccer for the first time in 16 years.
