Expect difficult driving conditions on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warningfor much of the Rochester area and points south and west, into Tuesday night. Snow started falling overnight, and it will be heavy at times especially for the morning commute.
The forecast is for storm totals of 10 to 18 inches by Tuesday night, with the heavier amounts to the west of Rochester.
Snow totals will be less to the east, in parts of the Finger Lakes and Central NY, including Seneca County, where there is a Winter Weather Advisory.
In any case, National Weather Service Meteorologist Steve Welch says the snow we do get will present a challenge when it comes to moving it out of the way.
“It’s going to be closer to the freezing point for temperature, so in some areas even just above freezing at the surface, so it will be a heavier, wetter snow," Welch told WXXI News.
Other parts of the northeast are expected to see a mix of snow, sleet and rain. There were a few cancellations of flights from the Greater Rochester International Airportto some East Coast Cities on Monday morning.
There is a flood watch for parts of the Finger Lakes and Central NY including Ontario and Wayne Counties.
After another night of below zero temperatures on Sunday, the high on Tuesday will be around 34 degrees, with a high in the low 40s later in the week.
