Heavy rain causes problems in Canandaigua

Spectrum News/Jordan Mazza

Strong thunderstorms and a possible tornado were all part of a very active weather scene just south of Rochester on Sunday.

There was a tornado warning Sunday afternoon in Ontario County, although no confirmed reports that one actually touched down. However there were reports of some funnel clouds spotted around the region.

The main issue was flooding, particularly in Ontario County. Canandaigua took the brunt of it, with some streets and backyards turned into rivers.

Most of the flash flood warnings expired Sunday, but aflood warningremained in effect for parts of Ontario County until 7 a.m. on Monday, after parts of that county saw at least 2 inches of rain on Sunday.

The sold-out Sam Hunt concert at CMAC went on, although officials opened the venue a little later than usual to deal with the weather.

A lakeshore flood warning for Monroe and Orleans Counties was canceled early Monday morning, but there is now a lakeshore flood watch in effect from Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon.
